Frequently asked questions

The things people ask us most — about the calls, the recordings, and who gets to listen.

How does the call actually work?

We call you, then we call them, and connect you. Your screen guides you through your questions and shows clearly when we’re recording. Skip a question, restart one, or come back to it later — and between questions nothing is recording, so you can simply visit.

Do I have to be there with them?

No — you don’t even have to be in the same state. It’s just a phone call: they answer their phone, and you have a nice conversation. No travel required.

Do I have to come up with the questions myself?

No. Tell us the occasion and a little about them, and warm, thoughtful questions come already written — childhood, love, faith, the day everything changed. No blank page, nothing to write down.

Can I change the questions?

Every one of them. Reword any, drop any, add your own — nothing is asked on the call that you haven’t looked over and approved.

Do I need any special equipment?

They don’t need anything at all — just to answer their phone. For you, the easiest setup is your phone at your ear and any computer or tablet in front of you, guiding the call. Doing it all from one phone works too — just pop in earbuds so you can see the screen while you talk. Either way, there’s nothing to download or install.

Can more than one person answer?

Yes. Ask one person, or gather a whole circle — friends, family, a graduating class, the people who knew someone best — all answering the same set of questions, woven into one keepsake.

What do I get at the end?

A finished movie you can play on any phone, TV, or laptop, and share with everyone who loves them — each question its own chapter, in their own voice.

Is it ever too late?

No — it’s never too late. It’s easiest while you still have them, but even after someone is gone, you can gather the voices of the people who loved them and keep their memories together.

Who can hear the recording?

You do. Your recordings and the movie are yours — you decide who to share them with. (More detail on our privacy page.)
